Suits every taste: our 5 best accomodations in Europe

After we recently presented our top sustainable accommodations in Germany, here are our recommendations for your next accommodation within Europe!

Close to nature & animal loving: Rifugio Isola del Sole in Sicily

Summer, beach, sun, sea – that’s Sicily for us. The largest island in the Mediterranean and at the same time the southernmost region of Italy offers a unique nature with countless white sandy beaches, beautiful old towns, delicious food and bright blue sea. But also the open and warm people make the charm of the island. There is nothing better than an accommodation where you can meet the locals directly, right?

The Rifugio Isola del Sole is an association that wants to create a better planet through animal welfare and the art of craftsmanship. Your overnight stay there finances the sterilization and vaccination of the many animals that stray in Sicily. The association already offers a new home to many rescued strays. There is also an educational center where workshops for adults are held and children are taught important values through close contact with animals.

Culture & Nature: Zveza društev Mladinski center in Slovenia

Slovenia- a true insider tip! The still undiscovered, but beautiful destination in the south of Europe offers not only great nature, but also numerous activities and hospitable people is definitely worth a trip. Our tip for accommodation there: Zveza društev Mladinski center in Idrija. The small town of Idrija is surrounded by picturesque landscapes and is located in the interior of Slovenia. Mercury was discovered there for the first time about 500 years ago. Not far from Idrija is also the Triglav National Park – learn more about it here!

Your overnight stay there finances the largest youth center in the community. Here, young people are given space to promote ideas. Young people have the opportunity there to improve their social situations and contribute their potential in the local environment. Ecological awareness has always played a major role. Being in the midst of young people, you will be immersed in the culture of the Slovenians and you will certainly learn a lot!

Family friendly & at the pulse of the city: EnriquezArte in Spain

Fancy a little city-trip? How about a lively metropolis on the Mediterranean – Barcelona, for example? During a vacation in the Catalan capital there really is something for everyone. Whether you are looking for art, beach, culture, sports or culinary highlights – you will find what you are looking for. Our suggestion for your accommodation: a modern hostel in the north of the city, where your overnight stay even does good.

With your booking, you finance an organization that takes care of the professional integration of vulnerable target groups. With multicultural activities, sports and artistic offerings, a lot of creativity and education in the topic of sustainability, residents experience inclusion and community building.

Near the beach & for animal lovers: Tenerife Horse Rescue on Tenerife

The days are getting shorter, it’s raining all the time and the shorts have long since disappeared into the closet. A trip to the “island of eternal spring” would be fantastic, wouldn’t it? On the largest Canary Island, thanks to the Gulf Stream, it’s still 21 degrees even in January. So Tenerife presents itself all year round with a diverse, exotic flora and fauna, volcanoes and mountains, beautiful coasts and even different climate zones.

Our shelter for you belongs to a sanctuary for horses and other animals on the coast of Arico. The organization rescues abandoned, abused and neglected animals and provides them with a safe home as well as necessary veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and lifelong care. Their focus is also on sustainability: more than 90% of building materials are recycled, electricity is self-generated, there is a self-built water system, and food comes from grocers and bakeries. There, the food would otherwise be thrown away.

With your overnight stay in a pretty, authentic yurt, you finance the animal rescue station one hundred percent. Vincent Dehler tested the socialbnb and found it to be good – maybe you’ll be the next one!

Barrier-free & comfortable: Hotel Einsmehr in Germany

Bavaria is so much more than just Munich; that’s for sure. If you want to get to know more of the Free State, we can recommend Augsburg. The Renaissance city has more to offer than some people think. And best of all, by spending the night at Hotel Einsmehr in the western part of the city, you’re helping people with disabilities get a job. About half of the staff at Augsburg’s first inclusive hotel are people with impairments. The long-term goal is for people with and without disabilities to work together as equals, learn from each other and set a positive example for other companies.

Not only dealing with inclusion plays a big role at Hotel Einsmehr. Dealing with nature is also very important here. Through our own photovoltaic system, the use of organic food and ecological cleaning products as well as the consistent avoidance of waste, ecological follow-up costs are reduced to a minimum.

Even if these five suggestions didn’t appeal to you, feel free to check out our website. There you will find many more accommodations in Europe, but also worldwide!
